Simran Bhargava, whose editorship I worked under at Cosmopolitan India in the mid-Nineties, had first struck me as the most beautiful woman I had seen and met.

Most of us in the Cosmo team we were the launch team would endlessly stare at Simran's peaches and cream complexion, her grace and smile, her textile saris and silver jewellery. In the first few months of meeting her, I couldn't stop raving about Simran's beauty to my parents and to whoever would listen. Seventeen years have gone by since. Simran has only become more beautiful; also because of the spiritual and emotional intelligence that now enhances her looks.

She gave up a full time job, did meaningful things, created a large distance between herself and the rat race, travelled the world, trained to be a counsellor. Her NDTV programme 'One Life To Love' that dwelt on the diaphanous yet intense philosophies of life, its griefs and joys, its shattering blows and ecstatic individual journeys found avid watchers.

She argued for a life of reflection instead of one suffocated with too many dos and don'ts, ifs and buts, ambition and aggression which lead to a fragmented self. My relationship with Simran changed over the years.

From boss and subordinate we became friends and now share a rare, open communication. What hasn't changed is the way I still stare at her, she charms me more than ever and I am unable to put away the word "beauty" when I talk about her. Recently, Simran's elder daughter got married.
