Play who is the villain

Like many other games of the era, each title features a morality system, though rather than "good" or "bad," the scale tends to range from "bad" to flat out "sadistic. Those who enjoy dark humor and satire will likely love what Overlord has to offer, as the games are full to the brim with both and never take themselves too seriously. Granted, the most recent title, Overlord: Fellowship of Evil , is a bit of a dud, but the first few are top-notch and are definitely worth a look.

It's not entirely clear who or what the player is controlling in Ndemic Creations' Plague Inc. Their aim is to create a virus that kills as many people as possible , which, although ridiculously morbid, has proven to be an incredibly popular premise with many modern gamers. Players are able to dictate how their virus mutates and earn upgrade points by infecting new countries and killing their inhabitants. Though exaggerated to a certain degree, the game provides excellent insight into how a virus spreads throughout the real world and the kind of things that can make developing effective vaccines a challenge for humanity.

Much like a real zombie horde, the endless stream of zombie-related games , movies, and television shows in the early two-thousands was incredibly relentless. Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse managed to set itself apart though, by having players control one of the flesh-hungry creatures rather than fighting endlessly against them.

Though it was both short and linear, the game was a lot of fun and garnered something of a cult following as a result. A remastered version of the game was released for current-gen consoles in early , which, although not the sequel that many fans had been hoping for, at least brought the original title a lot closer to modern-day standards.

Kratos is one of the most complicated protagonists in all of gaming. While he's certainly been on the receiving end of some pretty despicable acts , some of the things that he's done are truly unforgivable. He's killed more family members than can be counted on a single hand and has unleashed his wrath and rage on countless mortals and gods alike.

The most recent entry in the God of War series saw some big changes to Kratos' character, both in terms of his appearance and his personality. As well as being redesigned to look a bit less intimidating, players were shown a different side to the bloodthirsty brute as well as a genuine desire from Kratos to change his ways. As the game unfolds, however, it becomes clear to both Kratos and the player that he can't escape his true nature or his bloody past.

The dramatic rise in the popularity of asymmetrical multiplayer games over the past decade or so has led to some fantastic titles. Few have had quite the same impact as Dead by Daylight though. Four players must work together in order to escape from a crazed killer , who just so happens to be controlled by another player.

Despite releasing more than five years ago now, the game is still going strong and continues to add new characters to its roster as time goes by. Having launched with just three killers, there are now 24 of them ; many of whom are licensed from movies, television shows, and other video games. Likable though he may be, it's hard to argue that Hitman 's Agent 47 isn't a bad guy.

Throughout his career as a professional assassin he has racked up quite the body count and it doesn't look like he's planning his retirement anytime soon.

He's proficient with an arsenal of weapons and isn't afraid to improvise in order to get the job done. For all his flaws, however, there's just something incredibly satisfying about taking control of this cold-blooded killer. The level of fluidity with which he works is fascinating to behold, as too is his ability to change his plans at a moment's notice.

He may be bad to the bone, but sometimes it can feel pretty good to be bad. Games like Goat Simulator and Untitled Goose Game opened the door to a whole new genre of games that allow players to control a host of misbehaving animals.

While the aforementioned goat and goose were merely mischievous though, the bull shark that players take control of in Maneater is out for blood. There are several story choices to make, one of them being the infamous destruction of Megaton in Fallout 3. Players can pick how they want to handle their post-apocalyptic world and deal with those around them.

They can be a savior to the wastelands or the worst villain that they have ever seen. The Infamous games also leave the player to figure out how they want to live their life. The players will have a morality meter, and choosing to be a villain will have huge consequences for the story.

The meter will also be directly connected to the abilities the main character can unlock. By only playing a good route, the player will be cut out of a good portion of content in these games. For players that want a shorter experience, there is the Untitled Goose Game. This is a game where you become a goose with a mean streak. Your goal is to steal objects and just make the humans around you have a bad day.

It's mischievous fun that doesn't involve any killing. A recent update even allows you to team up with another goose to cause even more trouble.

Saints Row is a lot like Grand Theft Auto but throws out a lot of the realism for comedy. The Saints are a gang that will do anything to get to the top, no matter how ridiculous it is. This even includes using weapons that make people dance and competing in strange side missions for insurance money. Overlord allows players to become an evil overlord that wants to take over the world. The game is a traditional role-playing style with a top-down view. Fan Fiction. Film — Live Action. Saw The vital part of Jigsaw's games is that all his victims have a chance to prove their desire to live and free themselves from his traps.

But at least the chance is technically there. Subverted in Saw III : Amanda's traps are designed without any actual chance of escape, which Jigsaw acknowledges as proof that Amanda is too unstable to carry on his legacy.

The entire plot is also a Secret Test of Character where Amanda has the chance to survive, but she fails. The titular aliens from Predator are a Proud Warrior Race Guy species who will occasionally and intentionally handicap themselves by removing their advanced plasma weaponry and camouflage when fighting technologically-outmatched races, particularly if they deem them worthy.

That said, they're still incredibly strong and have dangerous wrist-blades, but it's a much more even fight than laser-death from afar. They also have an absolutely-strict code of honor to not hunt unarmed foes. Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett introduces the old Count Magpyr, the traditionalist vampire who litters his castle with weapons that can be used to take him down - instructions and diagrams included!

After all, taking a stake through the heart is one thing; looking like Swiss cheese because the average peasant can't find your heart is quite another. For him, this is also Pragmatic Villainy : if he can be overthrown by anybody with a lot of guts and a little luck, the villagers will generally be satisfied with 'killing' him something a vampire can eventually recover from rather than being so horrified that they'll take extreme measures to make sure he's Deader Than Dead.

The Duke of Ch'in in Bridge of Birds has elaborate mazes and death traps that always give the heroes just enough of a chance to escape. Master Li eventually figures out that this is because the Duke is like a child who protects himself with things straight out of fairy tales and believes it just wouldn't be as much fun if his victims had no chance of winning.

The Bene Tleilax are first introduced in Dune Messiah in the Dune series, and it is noted that they consider it unsporting not to give victims of their plots one chance to save themselves. However, they are repeatedly shown to have an extremely idiosyncratic definition of what a "chance" is. She doesn't get very far until Spider steps in and starts enforcing it. Arising as a ghost after his death in prison, he grew frustrated with his immaterial state, and committed another robbery to try to re-capture the thrill of being a Gentleman Thief.

When even that proved disappointing, Wheeler allowed himself to be incarcerated again Q always offered the people he "tested" a chance to win. A villain with an obsession with old Earth cinema ties up Uhura and a Klingon communications officer in a Death Trap triggered by the end of a movie he starts on the screen. When the Klingon notes there there has to be a way out of this, the villain replies. But you don't have until Continued Next Week.

Live-Action TV. Kamen Rider Ex-Aid 's Parado has a rather complicated worldview when it comes to this. He'll give Emu a new Gashat for seemingly no reason other than to power him up to his level, but he's also fine with taking on opponents whose level is far below his own.

At the same time, if a Bugster gets destroyed in a fight and the odds were fair Parado will take no issue with it. His goal is pretty much just to have a fair fight with Emu and he'll even seemingly violate his own code in order to make Emu fight him seriously.

In Squid Game , the central tenet of the Deadly Game is that everyone has the same chance at survival, even if the challenges demand sacrifices.

Part of the contract is the players can forfeit any winnings and leave the game by majority vote. When the players all vote to leave in episode two, the Front Man lets them leave no questions asked, just as he promised. While most of the players do come back, fourteen of them stay gone. While the Front Man tells the guards to keep an eye on those fourteen, there is no indication that he tries to drag them back or punish them in any way. Later on, when the Front Man discovers that some of his staff had bribed one of the players, a doctor, with foreknowledge of coming games in exchange for aiding in their organ-harvesting side hustle, the Front Man has the mastermind behind the side-hustle and the doctor executed, stating that he could care less about selling organs on the black market, but could not abide how they manipulated the game in the doctor's favor.

One of the games requires players to pair up, but with an uneven number of players, that meant there would be one odd player out. That player ends up skipping the game, sparing them from being killed when they wouldn't be able to play. Several games distort this notion of fair play. Most notably the window bridge game, a game of luck which gives later players a massive advantage while for earlier players it is mathematically infeasible to win.

But the players were able to pick their position in the order they played the game beforehand despite not knowing about the game itself , thus it is "fair". Despite that, when a player finds a trick to the game to eliminate the luck element, the Front Man cheats back.

However once Jaden starts looking like they'll genuinely escape the captor throws the rules out of the window and goes all out.

The King of Fighters : Kusanagi, dark magical doppelganger of series protagonist Kyo, will chastise anyone who fights with weapons against him such as Whip, Chang, Mai etc ; in a game where most combatants are barehanded.
