Functionally it's just one rocket that looks like four. The damage is around the same as a single rocket from a soldier possibly more at point blank range, but beyond that it's nearly even. He's more balanced this patch though. And every update they nerf him more and more I don't bother playing engine anymore cause his tots get destroyed in 2 shots.
Except for switch combos or puff-and-sting, combos have low dps. Playing a soldier or a scout I could reliably 2shot pyros in most situations. Even someone reflecting is using a lot of his fuel and after some dodges will be out or you can switch to shotgun. The biggest problem n00bs have is they're scared. I remember when I first realized it made more sense to charge a pyro as scout, get point blank, and blat-blat him rather than running away from a backburner.
